As the Indian digital taxi aggregating industry is heating up with the likes of Ola clinching massive VC deals and snapping rivals, Delhi-based digital car rental solutions firm Carzonrent has acquired Ridingo, a ride-sharing and car-pooling startup based in Bangalore, according to a report by The Economic Times.

With this acquisition, Westbridge Capital-backed Carzonrent is foraying into the ride-sharing space to take on the likes of BlaBlaCar and Tripda, two global ventures which recently expanded to India.

Ridingo, a GSF incubated startup, is a mobile- and cloud-based solution for ride sharing. Started in 2013, the startup is currently available only in Bangalore. People driving from one point to another can share the empty seats with others who would like to travel on the same routes.

The startup lets you find an appropriate partner based on your time and route of journey. Ridingo verifies every member’s work status, and ensures that only members from reputed organisations are given membership. Users have full control over who they want to share their rides with. There is also a rating system to filter members who may not be good carpooling partners.

Ridingo also provides an online rewards system for the vehicle owners. Passengers buy Ridingo Coins online and, car owners get these coins on Ride Completion. These coins can then be redeemed for fuel and other items.

Carzonrent is a personal ground transportation service provider offering a bouquet of long- and short-term car rental solutions through its fleet of 6,500 cars across the country. A brainchild of Rajiv K Vij, Carzonrent was launched in the year 2000 with a short-term objective of offering a safe and reliable medium of travel to customers and a long-term vision of giving form and structure to the unorganised Indian personal ground transportation industry.
