Practo acquires products outsourcing firm Genii

Bangalore’s doctor discovery engine Practo has acquired Mumbai-based Genii, a product outsourcing firm with expertise in building bespoke e-commerce portals and SaaS platforms.

The transaction details are not disclosed.

Post acquisition, Genii’s founders Varun Vohra and Aditya Anand, along with the 11-member team, will join Practo and move to Bangalore. The Genii founders will lead product teams and accelerate Practo’s march towards the enterprise space with products focussed around hospitals, diagnostic centres and others, said an official release.

This is Practo’s second acquisition. In April this year, the firm had acquired Delhi-based fitness management platform Fitho.

Founded in 2008, Practo offers services such as helping patients find relevant doctors online, compare them and schedule appointments. It also sells PractoRay under SaaS model for primary clinics, which enables doctors to schedule, manage patient records, billing, etc. Currently, Practo has listed over 8,000 hospitals on its platform and is planning to expand this to over 20,000 by the end of this year. Recently, it launched a new feature that allows users to find diagnostic labs in the vicinity.

Early this year, Practo raised US$30 million in its Series B round of funding from Matrix Partners, with participation from existing investor Sequoia Capital. In 2012, it secured US$4.6 million from Sequoia in Series A round of funding.

Genii is a technology services firm focussed on product design and development. In the past three years, the company has taken more than 30 products from inception to launch across multiple domains including retail, finance, real estate, travel and events. Its clients include Axis Bank, Mediassist, The Economic Times and HDFC RED, added the release.
