US-based mGage buys Indian enterprise messaging firm Unicel

The acquisition is aimed at bolstering mGage’s presence in the enterprise mobile marketing and mobile CRM space in India

mGage, a US-based mobile customer relationship management (mCRM) company, has acquired Bangalore-based Unicel Technologies, a provider of integrated cloud communications solutions across SMS, voice, USSD, and email.

The acquisition is aimed at bolstering mGage’s presence in the enterprise mobile marketing and mobile CRM market in India.

While the deal size is not disclosed, media reports have pegged the sum at INR80 crore – INR100 crore (US$12.5 million to US$15.6 million).

Both mGage and Unicel help banks to notify customers via SMS alerts about their transactions, enable insurance companies send payment reminders, or assist e-commerce firms to send text messages regarding shipment, delivery or cancellation.

Founded in 2003, Unicel is a mobile messaging company with over 1,000 enterprises clients across India. Its platform enables enterprises to access any media from a single sign-on.

mGage is a global mobile engagement provider that enables brands to personalise mobile communications for the omni-channel consumer. The firm currently serves 800-plus enterprises.
