BookMyShow takes majority stake in social media analytics firm Eventifier

BookMyShow.com, a leading online entertainment ticketing venture in India, has acquired majority stake in Bangalore-based social media analytics startup Eventifier. While the deal size is not officially disclosed, media reports have pegged the amount at US$1-US$2 million.

The acquisition will enable BookMyShow to fulfill the social needs in the cinema and events space. With this deal, Eventifier’s investors Kae Capital and Accel Partners have exited the company.

“We shall be operating independently as a company and will continue to cater to customers globally. We have a long vision in coming years along with BookMyShow and by combining forces we believe we can scale Eventifier and cater to a larger audience in coming years,” said Jazeel Ferry, Founder and CEO, Eventifier.

Owned and operated by Bangalore-based SpaceBound Web Labs, Eventifier was set up in 2012 by Ferry, Nazeem Zishan and Mohammed Saud. It offers solutions to consolidate, track and analyse content feed on social media platforms generated during a targeted social media campaign. Eventifier automatically aggregates and archives all the event data and content. One can archive contents like photos, videos, slides, tweets, conversations using Eventifier.

The startup claims that it has over 1,500 clients that include top-notch organisations like Pearson Plc, UBM Tech, Clinton Foundation and NASA.

Eventifier had earlier raised more than INR 3 crore (around US$500,000) in funding from investors such as Kae and Accel.

Started in 2007, Bookmyshow is India’s largest entertainment ticketing portal for movies, plays, concerts and sports. In June last year, BookMyShow — run by Bigtree Entertainment Pvt Ltd – had raised US$25 million from SAIF Partners, Accel and Network18.

The firm had earlier acquired Chennai-based ticketing portal Ticket Green in March 2013.
